An Inspired Night

Hey Lover,

Last Night I had the honor of attending the Halifax Chamber Business Awards.  The Black Business Initiative graciously invited me as their guest to the prestigious event.  The room was electric with business minds and inspiring stories of success and perseverance.  One of the highlights of my night was while I was thanking the CEO of the Black Business Initiative for inviting me.  He responded by saying that it was a pleasure doing so because he wanted me to experience it as he believed that in the future I would be one of the people being honored.  I was SO humbled by those words and I will forever cherish them.  It is so wonderful to have the support of such an influential organization and I am very grateful for it.

Another moment I remember very well was my dear friend Sarah, who owns I Heart Bikes, standing on stage with the finalists for the awards.  I was so happy that she won the Bronze Award for New Business of the Year! Congrats Lover!!!

Check out pictures of what I wore + the yummy food + me and Sarah and her award

Mo

Ugly Shirts Need Love Too

Hey Lover,

I went to a party Saturday night and decided to be on my artsy steeze..LOL
I had this ugly shirt that I thrifted for $2.99.  I saw, I said "eww" and knew I had to have it!!! LOL
I threw on a skinny grey leather tie, some blue pants, burgundy men's shoes and called it a night.
This is definitely one of my out-there-ish outfits, but I kinda dig it!
Check out the outfit below + A few familiar faces and stylish lovers I saw.

Sneak Peek of New Banner Shoot

Hey Lover,

Hope you are having an awesome Friday.
It's been a good day for me and I thought I'd share one of the pics that I have from the shoot I did for a new blog banner.  I am still waiting for the pictures from the photographer but here is a preview of what's to come!
Sending all my fellow Halifax lovers a lot of positive vibes.
We got another big snowfall today and everyone who is commuting from work seems to be stuck in some really messed up traffic.

Anyways, here is the sneak peek.

Love,
Mo

A Romper in Winter

Hey Lover,

I must have been REALLY over winter, today, for me to wear a leg showing romper.
I can honestly say that my wardrobe is not equipped for the type of winters that we get here in Halifax.
I believe it's somewhat intentional, perhaps my own little way of sticking it to the man: and by man I mean the winter.
I wore this romper and threw on an over sized men's denim shirt when I met up with my friend Mana for some much needed girl chitchat and catchup.
Check it out.

Love,
Mo

THRIFTED: romper, men's denim shirt, shoes, scarf and earrings
THE BAY: ring

Just wanted to do an outfit catchup.
Last Saturday I went to a basketball game avec my best amigo Kwame.
Our home team, the Halifax Rainmen, played an amazing game.

me so long to watch a game.  I wore something casual and comfortable.
I can't WAIT to watch another game. If you are in Halifax, go out and support our team!!!

Anyways, check out the outfit.

Mo

PLayiNg Catching UP: The Last 2 Weeks

Hey Lover,

Things have been crazy for me the last couple of weeks that I haven't blogged as much.
I've felt REALLY badly about it.
This post should catch me up on a few events and outfits.

Enjoy
Love,
Mo

1.
A friend, Anna, invited me to a night flea market.  I had no idea what to expect but I was PLEASANTLY surprised. Halifax's artsy scene had a to die for vibe.  There were lumberjack beards and moustaches, bow ties and polka dot ties, gluten free baked goodies, nail art by my friend Stephanie and the piece the resistance mixed cassette tapes made on the spot with the prettiest covers.
I wish I had taken more pictures, however it was a little crowded in there ,but take it from me the "street style" was inspiring.

2.
A few weeks back I received an invite to go to a shopping party.  One thing I love about Halifax is that we are big on hyping up our local businesses.  Wherever you are in dowtown Halifax, you are bound to see most stores with stickers encouraging you to BUY LOCAL.  The shopping party took place at Biscuit General Store, which is a great blend of quirky make-you-chuckle vintage finds and  wonderful pieces from brands like Cheap Monday, Toms, Betsey Johnson, Free People, and Valerie Dumaine to name a few.

3.
With the change in weather comes the decrease of outfit posts. Canada's winters are SO brutal that I find myself wearing the same warm, thick and wind blocking clothing that, frankly speaking, just doesn't seem blog-worthy to me. In the past 2 weeks I have, sadly, only taken one outfit pic. Forgive me I will try harder!

4.
Last week was pretty much non-existent in terms of things to blog about.  I spent the week preparing for my event which I had on Friday December 9th.  It was a celebration of Curvy Geekery's 1 year Anniversary:  A night of entertainment, some prizes and revealing my new collection of clutches. I'm almost done with that GIGORMOUS post of Friday's happenings. I am still floating on the HIGH from that night. It truly was MAGICAL for me and can't wait to share it with you!

Mo

Indie Boutik CoLLectiVE Grand Opening

Hey Lover

Last night I went to a store opening for Indie Boutique Collective.
5 local designers have gotten together and created a collective of their 5 brands in one convenient location.
The brands are Jere Brooks, MakeNew, Dakini Silks and Things, Blue Ladybug Design and Laura Chenoweth Organic Apparel.
My personal favorite being MakeNew because it's designer thrift and genuine vintage clothing and accessories.
The 5 ladies are awesome and would love for you to pay Indie Boutik a visit.

Also, Follow them on Facebook here.
Location:
1542b Queen Street, Halifax
Business Hours:
Monday - Thursday: 11-6

A play. Some Food. Great Friends

Hey Lover

Today the best amigo and I had the great honour of seeing our friend, Helena, in a play she was starring in.
Her performance was AMAZING! I felt so proud of her and so happy that she is following her bliss.
The play titled "In This World, by Hannah Moscovitch, is a complex exploration of race, class and sex as experienced by two urban, contemporary girls in high school." [source
If you are in Halifax I URGE you to go and check out this play which is running until November 20th.  You have 1 more week to check this play out so what you waiting for? Get yourself a ticket and experience a great play!

I am SOOOO proud of you Helena and I can't wait to see how far you will go.

A GRAD party & November's Trying SomeTHING new

Hey Lover,

Hope you had a great Saturday.
I went to a surprise Grad Party for my girl Mim.
The venue was a restaurant called 44North Ocean Bistro and since I had never been there before, what a great and budget friendly opportunity to have this as my "Try Something New" thing for November.
my verdict on 44North Ocean Bistro you might be wondering...
YUMMY YUMMY YUMMY!!! I had the Seafood Chowder which was rich and oh so delicious.
The prices were reasonable and the restaurant has a great view of the harbour!
Haligonians, go check out 44North inside the Marriott Harbourfront on Upper Water Street!!!

Check out the pics of what I wore, me and my girls and the yummy food that we ate.
love,
Mo

WARNING: Get a napkin as you are about to drool on your computer. LOL
